Our Inspiration

I decided to invest in designing a coat specifically for autistic children, those with additional needs, and children experiencing anxiety.

This idea came about after years of struggling to find a coat that my son was happy with. For years, my wife and I spent a lot of money on different styles of coats, searching for the perfect one. Taking my son to a store to buy a coat always resulted in a meltdown.

So, I asked my son what his ideal coat would look like. That’s where the inspiration came from. He told me he wanted:

• A soft interior with no seams
• A hood that could fit over his ear defenders
• No labels
• Big zips, as he struggles with small ones
• Fidget toys in the pockets to use when he feels overwhelmed

Raising a child is challenging, but it’s even harder when they are diagnosed with autism. The fast-paced world we live in, with constant noise and queues, can make life overwhelming for them. That’s where my coat stands out.

You won’t need to worry about the hood not fitting over ear defenders or headphones. You won’t need to retrace your steps because they’ve dropped their fidget toys—these are attached to the coat and easily accessible when needed. The weighted design of the coat provides a comforting sense of security, and reflective strips ensure they are visible in the dark.

But the best part, according to my son, is how it feels on the inside. He says it’s cosy and warm without making him itch.
